The Baptism of the Lord Jesus
by John
MARK 1:9-11 -- And it came to pass in those days,
that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee,
and was baptized of John in Jordan.
(10) And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened,
and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
(11) And there came a voice from heaven,
saying,
Thou art my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased.
"Bring the little ones to Me!"
MARK 10:13-16 -- And they brought young children to him,
that he should touch them:
and his desciples rebuked those that brought them.
(14) But when Jesus saw it,
he was much displeased,
and said unto them,
"Suffer the little children to come unto me,
and forbid them not:
for of such is the kingdom of God.
(15) Verily I say unto you,
Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child,
he shall not enter therein."
(16) And he took them up in his arms,
put his hands upon them,
and blessed them.
Jesus's sermon on the mountain!
MATTHEW - 5:1-12 -- And seeing the multitudes,
he went up into a mountain:
and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
(2) And he opened his mouth,
and taught them, saying,
(3) "Blessed are the poor in spirit:
for their's is the kingdom of heaven.
(4) Blesssed are they that mourn:
for they shall be comforted.
(5) Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.
(6) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.
(7) Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy.
(8) Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.
(9) Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.
(10) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righeousness' sake:
for their's is the kingdom of heaven.
(11) Blessed are ye,
when men shall revile you, and persecute you,
and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
(12) rejoice,
and be exceeding glad:
for great is your reward in heaven:
for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."
Here the Lord stands with open hands.
As if to say
"Come unto me!"
