Where we are, and where we're
from.
(cross-country culture
shock)
I'm just now adjusting to life in
California. Here's
where we are now...
and what the
weather is like near where we live.
This is a photo of part of our new
home, taken in the rain with a
digital camera.

page of photos!)
New things I have learned
about California:
- People get excited when they think
they'll have a "green Christmas".
- You know how they say the weather is
ideal here?
They understate it.
- They keep their snow in the hills and
go
visit it.
- There are roses and nasturtiums
blooming at Thanksgiving.
- Every remaining VW beetle on the
planet resides in California.
- Everything that goes wrong is
attributable to El Nino.
- They eat lots of 'wraps' and
'smoothies' but can't make a good
bagel.
- It is important to attach even your
fishtank to the wall with strong
straps in anticipation of
the next earthquake.
I still think a lot about our former home
in New York, though.
We
used to live on a couple acres with a
stream and woods and deer, right
here...
although
during
winter it's nice to remember that it might
be snowing
there.
Things I miss about New
York:
On our way west from New York this summer,
we visited
some National Parks in Utah.
We were
awed by
Bryce Canyon: check it out for yourself on
the Bryce
Canyon page
of
the National
Park Service web
pages if you haven't been
there in person.
All in all, we'd rather be in
California... at least during winter.
:-)
