Am looking for information on Nathan SIDWELL, who married Anne PRINTY,
daughter of William PRINTY, in 1798 in Mason County, KY. His son Aaron
SIDWELL, is my grgrgr grandfather, and having received a copy of Nathan's will
from the Mason County Museum within the last week, I know that he, too, is my
ancestor.
In his will, signed April 6, 1830, Nathan refers to his three oldest sons,
John, Reuben, and Nathan SIDWELL, for whom he indicates that he made previous
provision. He left land in Mason County to his two sons Aaron and Isaac
SIDWELL, his land in the State of ILLINOIS to his sons Jacob, Joseph, Israel
(?), and Edgar M. SIDWELL and his daughters Ann, Debby, America (?) and Sarah
SIDWELL, and the rest of his estate basically to his then current wife
(possibly Anne CARTER) and his sons Mahlon (?) and William SIDWELL. He
appointed his sons Aaron and Isaac SIDWELL executors of the will and also
appointed them joint guardians of all of his children under the age of 21.
William SIDWELL, at age 24, can be found in the 1850 KY census living with his
brother Aaron and family in Maysville. Jacob SIDWELL did not go to Illinois
but also remained in Mason County, KY.
A land purchase by Nathan in 1795 is signed by Levi SIDWELL, who also signed
the PRINTY marriage bond with Nathan and the marriage permission slip from
Anne's father, William PRINTY.
Who were Nathan's parents? One Hugh SIDWELL signed petitions to the Virginia
Assembly from (Mason County, KY) then Bourbon County, VA in 1786 attesting to
the fact that he had settled there, so I know that the SIDWELL family was in
the Maysville area while it was still Virginia.
