This dough is so much fun to play with, you may forget it's cookie dough. Use it to create fun shapes like you would play-doh. Make your masterpieces right on a cookie sheet. You'll make less mess and you won't have to move them. 2/3 cup butter or margrine
Playful Dough Cookies
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
food coloring
Turn oven to 300. In a large mixer bowl beat butter or margarine with electric mixer on medium speed till softened (about 30 seconds). Add sugar and beat till the mixture is fluffy. Beat in almond extract.
With mixer on low speed gradually add flour, beating till mixture recembles coarse crumbs. Divide mixture into several parts, depending on how many different colors you want.
Add food coloring to each part, kneading with your hands till the dough is smooth. Form the dough into shapes that are about 3/4-inch thick. Place cookies about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or till edges are firm but bottoms are not brown. With a pancake turner lift cookies onto a cooling rack to cool. Makes about 2 cups of dough.
Note: After you mix in the flour, this dough will be fairly crumbly. But when you knead in the food coloring, the dough will be smooth and easy to shape.
