Bear is a St. Bernard who was probably born around 1997. He was
found as a stray and was named 'Diesel' in the shelter. He was
turned over to the St. Bernard Rescue and lived in a
foster home for 2 weeks where they discovered he responded to the
name 'Bear'. He had Lyme Disease, whipworm, and one of his
canine teeth had pierced his bottom lip.
He was
treated and neutered and found his way to us. When he came to
us in 2002 he was 131 pounds and the vet said he needed to gain about 30
more. He was very skinny. He quickly became a part
of our family and was extremely sweet and loyal. His
favorite things to do were to follow us around and lay on the
laundry.
Bear had knee surgery in Sept 03
to fix what they thought was a cruciate ligament problem. When
the surgeon opened his knee, the ligament was fine. He took
biopsies and lab samples to identify what was wrong but all that
showed up was that he had inflammation indicating some kind of knee
trauma. Here is a picture of him (with
stitches and shaved leg) snoozing on the dirty laundry with Brandy.
Hanging out with my buddies in the
back yard in Nov 2003.
This is the last picture we took
of Bear. It was taken in May 2005.
