Our Bambie
Hi! Have you ever had the chance to raise a fawn??? Well, we did and it
was the nicest experience we have had.
A fellow from the Detroit area was up here at his cabin on the Holiday
in May in the late 70"s and saw this little fawn. He picked it up and
took it to show his wife. Well, even I knew better then to do that and I
was from the city!
He didn't know what to do with it then so knowing we had horses and
stables he brought it down to us. Yes, we'd try to raise it and put it in
one of the stalls.
I had to quick find a place with a bottle and some kind of milk to feed
it. This went rather well and Bambie grew. He wanted in the house and
would come up on the back porch and hit the door with his hoof and in
he'd come.
He ate meals off the table with us and really liked potatoes and a
little of everything else.
People were always stopping to see him and soon he got so he'd shy away
from them and just stand by the edge of the woods.
The first hunting season he stayed real close to us and my husband even
put him in our truck and he rode with him on the front seat and hunters
would stop and look. He wore his red rag around his neck.
I will never forget raising him and the sad day came when he had his
horns and hunting season came again and during the night I heard a shot
up the road and my husband jumped out of bed and in the truck but could
never find any sign of anything and we never saw Bambie again. You see,
too many people knew we had him and that second year he wandered further
away. Yes we know a poacher got him during the night. SAD!!
Bambie we
love you and had a lot of fun raising you. You gave us many great times.
