USGENWEB: http://www.tngenweb.org/bedford/ In 1807, Bedford County was formed from Rutherford County and Indian land. When first established on December 3, 1807, Bedford County included large parts of Marshall, Coffee, and Franklin Counties and all of Moore and Lincoln Counties. The first county seat was established near Mulberry Creek, in a little village called County Line.

Please respond directly to the researcher. RESEARCHER NOTES: My great Uncle James P.Cook (b.1836), son of William C. Cook & Elizabeth Putman Cook, lived in Bedford County, Tennessee until adulthood. I recently learned that he is buried in the Ozark Cemetery in Mulberry, Arkansas...near Van Buren. I am not sure when he relocated to Arkansas. If you are a descendant of this James P. Cook, please get in touch with me. Sincerely, Hoyte Cook cookeng@prodigy.net
W.C. Cook is my great grandpa. He married Elizabeth Putman in Williamson County, TN in 1831. I do not know for sure who his parents were. It is reported that he was the son of Joseph Cook,...but I doubt that this is true. I suspect that he could be a son of the widow Elizabeth Cook who appears in the 1830 census of Williamson County, but have not yet proved it.
I have a Bible that W.C. Cook presented to his youngest son Cass (1857-1908)...(my grandpa). Cass climbed onto the top of the smokehouse and listened to the big guns while the Battle of Stones River was going on at the end of 1862. W.C. died January 1, 1882. A red cedar house still stands in the tenth district of Bedford County (belonging to a Bryant family) that I believe W.C. had a hand in building. I understand that the 1850 census that covered the tenth district of Bedford County was lost. Regards, Hoyte Cook cookeng@prodigy.net

From the Cook List -
researcher: ROBERT NICHOLSON [rn99@kingman.com] wrote " I am a descendant of the Martin Shofner... His wife was Catherine Cook Shofner. Martin had a brother named Frederick who married Christina Cook who was probably the sister of Catherine. Martin Shofner served as the bondsman for the 1796 marriage of John Cook and Hannah Kelton (this name probably should be Helton or Hilton). John Cook was probably a close relative, perhaps younger brother, of Catherine and Christina Cook. ... Martin and Catherine Shofner moved to Bedford County, TN in the early 1800s. There is strong evidence that John Cook and Hannah Kelton Cook also moved there about the same time as did other related families. There are many other instances of Shofner and Cook connections in NC and TN."
