Cook's Cabin, early 19th Century, Franklin County, Kentucky. This would have been considered a "house" when it was built, but by today's standards, it appears to be a cabin. Visit Charles Cook's page on this home in the wilderness. |

Here is a request from Bud Cumberledge ... writing to inquire about my grandmother who's birth name was NELLIE ODELL COOK, born in 1909 and died in 1980. According to family stories, his great grandparents were both killed at or about the same time while his grandmother was very young. She was placed with any siblings in an orphanage and later split up. The grandmother remembered 2 sisters and believed that she was from Franklin Co, KY. Apparently, the records went up in flames in a court house fire. His grandmother married Wilburn Jason Beaver (Bever) and lived in Richwood, West Virginia. Jason died at age 36 and NELLIE raised 8 children, taking in laundry and working as a cook. Can anyone help Bud in his quest? CUMBERLEDGE.FAM@prodigy.net
Don't forget to visit
the USGENWEB site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyfrankl/franklin.htm from their web site, I learned:
Franklin
County was formed in 1795 from part of WOODFORD, SHELBY, and MERCER Counties.
In 1799 portion of Franklin County was
removed
to form GALLATIN County and
in 1819 a portion was again taken to form OWEN County. In
1827, for the third and last time, a portion of Franklin County
was taken to form the county of ANDERSON. AN AWESOME SITE!
They have a search feature and I found several COOK's on this site, this is only a small sampling. Visit the site -
