Hancock County was the 46th county in KY. It was named for John Hancock the first President of the Continental Congress. Hancock County is located in the Western Coal Field Region of Kentucky. Its elevation ranges from 358 to 840 feet above sea level. In 1990 the population was 8483 in a land area of 188 square miles, which gives an average of 45.1 people per square mile. The county seat is Hawesville. The Hancock County Court Clerk can be reached by U. S. Mail at P. O.
