Metcalfe County is located in the eastern portion of the Pennyroyal region of south central Kentucky and is bordered by Hart and Green Counties on the north, on the west by Barren County, on the south by Monroe County, on the southeast by Cumberland County, and on the east by Adair County. The county's land area is 296 square miles.
