Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in this site. Our goal is to provide QUALITY and ACCURATE research information for those of us who share a common surname COOK. Some of us are lucky and can trace back many years and others are just beginning the search for our roots. We all have something to share and we all have somethings to learn.
I am providing a few tips that could make this a more valuable site for all of us to use.
1. Please always remember we were all beginners once.
2. Submit what you know about your Kentucky and Tennessee Ancestors in a format that can be "cut and pasted" into a web page document easily. (Or if you know html - submit it as a web page as an attachment to your e-mail.) As an example, some genealogy software allows you to create family group sheets that you can copy from your software into an e-mail message. This is a GREAT way to share information. Providing the dates and locations that your ancestors and your possible ancestors were born, died, and had children is a great way to share information.
3. Remember to put your name and e-mail address in the body of that e-mail message so that when I cut and paste it into a web ready format that I don't loose you.
4. Include as much documentation as possible. For example if Jefferson Davis Cook died in 1916, please make note in your e-mail that you have a copy of his death certificate. Perhaps you found his wife listed as a widow in 1900, this is a conflicting piece of information but by all means, note that in the e-mail as well. If your information was provided by your favorite but now dead aunt - tell us that, too. "As told to me by my Great Aunt Datha Cook Ely," as much I loved my Great Aunt Datha, she was missing a few of the facts.
5. What happens if you and your cousin Lewie disagree - we'll post both with as much supporting information as you can provide.
6. Remember, I'm better at creating html documents that knowing the details of the many Cook families in Kentucky and Tennessee but we will sure post and help you share what you know about the Cook families that we are all searching for.
7. One additional note - we could use your help to become a better site. If your Cook Family was in Kentucky or Tennessee and you have census data that is not already on our web pages - please provide it. The best way to find others is to help them find you - we give credit to the contributor of the information and if you think Great Great Great Uncle Newton was in Union County, Tennessee and have gone to the trouble to copy all the Union County, TN Cook census entries, don't leave them setting in the notebook near your computer - please consider sharing it - we would love to post it.
8. Questions? Please let us know - again our goal is to be a premier site for Quality Cook Family Information. Please visit often.
