Surnames: FERGUSON and FRISBIE I have a dead-end on a FERGUSON in my ancestry: Drusilla FERGUSON, married Clytus Alonzo FRISBIE in NY ca. 1835-36. Drusilla, according to later censuses, was born in NY ca. 1820, making her young at the time of marriage. They immediately left NY for Iowa in 1836-37, and then to Missouri 1844-47. I have her maiden name from the marriage records of one daughter. Clytus lived in Harpersfield, Delaware Co., NY, though he had been born in CT. There are also some veiled family documents concerning Drusilla having lived in Montgomery Co., NY. I suspect that the marriage was not viewed nicely by one or both families, hence the departure into the undeveloped Iowa area of Keokuk Co. (not the city Keokuk). I know nothing else about Drusilla's background, though I have a good listing of her descendants. Donald W. Fisher dwfrft@primary.net |

Surnames: FERGUSON and ESTY/ESTES I'm sending you this in hopes we can make some kind of connection in our genealogical research. I've too hit the brick wall with family members that are from New York. When reading your emails on roots web, I see similar names at similar times, I know this is grasping at straws but lets try anyway. I've found my ggreat-grandfather, John FERGUSON and his wife and children in the 1880 and 1870 census. Calculation from both these census have John being born in New York in 1841. His wife Ruth, I believe her maiden name to be either ESTY or ESTES, to have been born in either 1843 or 1844 in New Brunswick. I have always assumed that the New York referred to either New York City or State. It could be that it refers to some county or town in Canada. Therefore when I saw you were looking for Ferguson's in the early to mid 1800s and you had family links to New York and Canada I decided to see if we could make a connection in our families. Thank you for your time, hopefully we can make a connection and shore further information. Danny Floyd Ferguson |
