EMR, the final transmission with Barry Stephens (download 1.4 mb) or streamed audio!

Address, Kent Place, Norwell, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England

The station much favoured by DXer's for it's professional approach to the serious subject of long distance listening(!) EMR was heard for a number of years in the 49 and 41 metre bands.

Essentially the work of two men, Barry Stephens and Roger Tate its broadcasts even captured the imagination of respected magazines and broadcasters. This could have something to do with the fact that the station carried a serious DX programme hosted occasionally by the respected AJ Bierns late of the offshore station Radio North Sea. The popular North Sea goes DX could once again be heard over the airwaves of EMR. The station closed in 1981 following a raid and when the operator found a less than understanding wife!! Roger Tate can occasionally be heard under his real name of Bob Tomouski as a science reporter on BBC Radio Five Live! He is also Chief Technical Writer for 'What Satellite Europe.'
