Alexander McKinnon & Mary McIntyre
Alexander MCKINNON was the son of Robert MCKINVEN of Killean Parish, North Kintyre, Argyll, Scotland. He was christened in North Kintyre on 22nd November 1813 and later became a fisherman.
Alexander married Mary MCINTYRE on 16th July 1844 in Campbeltown, Argyll. She was born on 24th October 1820 in Campbeltown. Mary's parents were John MCINTYRE and Margaret (Nee) GRAHAM. The couple moved from the Church of Scotland to the Free Church, probably in 1842/43 at the time of 'The Disruption.'
Their son also named Alexander, was born in Dumbarton, Argyll on 6th January 1844. His birth though was listed with the July babies. As he was conceived out of wedlock and because of the stigma attached to it in those days, this may have been the reason for their move to Dumbarton.
It seems that it was this generation that changed the family name from MCKINVEN, to MCKINNON.
