Alexander McKinnon & Marion Campbell
This Alexander MCKINNON was the son of Alexander MCKINNON (& Mary MCINTYRE), who in turn was the son of Robert MCKINVEN of North Kintyre, Argyll, Scotland. He became a compositor, which someone who sets and corrects type (printing) and generally assembles plating and other matter.
Alexander was born in Dumbarton, Argyll on 6th January 1844. His parents had not married until July that same year which means that he was conceived out of wedlock. His birth was then recorded with the July babies in the OPR. Because of the social and religious stigma attached to out of wedlock pregnancies at that time, this event is most probably behind the move made by the family from Campbeltown to Dumbarton.
On 20th December 1865 in Dumbarton, Alexander married Marion (or Murren as she is sometimes listed) CAMPBELL. She was born on 30th Aug 1839 in Southend, Argyll. Her parents were Neil CAMPBELL and Helen MCMILLAN. Her occupation was a dairymaid.
They had two sons that I am aware of, (yet another) Alexander MCKINNON, and James Campbell MCKINNON.
