Army Family Team Building

Together Everyone Achieves More!

I am an Army Family Team Building Instructor. I have been teaching AFTB since August 1997. If you are new to the military, or unfamiliar with AFTB, let me tell you alittle about it...

Army Family Team Building was created out of lessons learned during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The deployed soldiers' were so concerned for their families, who often lacked the skills and knowledge necessary in a military community to care for themselves, that took the soldiers' attention away form the mission.

AFTB is voluntary training for anyone who wants to attend and learn. The classes are taught by fully trained volunteers. Classes are open for family members, soldiers, DA civilians and anyone else interesed in attending. Classes can be taught in a variety of settings -- in regular classrooms, in units, or to family support groups or other social groups.

The AFTB program has three tracks. The first two tracks are for soldiers and DA cilivians. The third track is designed for familymembers. The soldier and civilian training program is currently being taught in the Training and Doctrine Command schools, pre-comand courses and at all levels of the officer and NCO education system.

Through this training we are changing the old mindset that an informed spouse is a threat. The more informed a spouse the better the chances are of the soldier having a successful career.

The AFTB program is set up with three levels of modules and is designed to:

Please take a look at the complete listing of classes that we offer, but here are a few highlights: Benefits, Entitlements & Compensation; Problem Solving; Introduction to Military and Civilian Resources; Conflict Management, Communication Skills, and Management Skills to name a few.

The familiy member portion of the AFTB program is broken into three levels.

The AFTB program is ment to augment the current Family Support programs. By teaching spouses where to go for help and how to solve a problem, it will make for less phone calls, crisis and stress on the soldier.

Your local Army Community Services office can give you information on class schedules and more!!
