What Is The Bible?
The Bible is the Word of God, revealed over
many centuries to His chosen people. Originally written in Hebrew,
Aramaic, and Greek, the copies we use today are translations
from those original languages.
The Bible is made up of two parts, the Old
Testament (The Hebrew Bible) and the New Testament. There are
66 books in the Bible: 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the
New Testament. The Old Testament contains the history of God's
people - the Hebrews (Jews) - and the promise of the coming Savior.
The New Testament tells of the fulfilment of that promise in
the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and the establishment
of His Church on earth.
The Bible is not mearly a human record of
observations regarding unexplainable events that were attributed
to some "higher power." They are the actual records
of events as God wants us to know them. We say that the writers
of the books of the Bible were "inspired" by God. That
doesn't mean simply that they were given high motivation and
encouragement, but rather that they were the instruments He used
to record for all time the very words He wanted us to read.
That is why we can totally believe and trust
what the Bible tells us. It truely IS the Word of God.
