The ?Virgin? Mary

In recent years, there have been many many sightings around the world of the "Blessed Virgin Mary", bringing warnings and prophesy to those who would listen. The most famous of these sightings are the Fatima sightings, which made three predictions, the first two of which have come to pass. The third is not public, remaining only as the memory of one of the girls who were directly involved in the sightings, now a Catholic Nun. According to reports, she carries the third and final prophesy, and is fobidden to reveal it until a certain time.

For years, I have watched such instances with curiosity. After all, can we realy afford to ignore prophesy, since Biblical prophesy has been proven to be 100% accurate? The fact that the prophesies of Mary are connected with the Catholic Church, and the fact that Mary was the mother of Jesus, would seem to give creedence to their authenticity. And the fact that they have been accurate to date does nothing to discredit them.

Yet, there is one troubling aspect to these. Why are they being delivered by Mary? Does Mary have spiritual authority to deliver prophesy, when other prophesy is delivered by the Holy Spirit? I am placing a few Bible verses here, to attempt to show a point:

Mark 13:22

For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Mark 13:5-6

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man decieve you: For many shall come in my name saying, I am Christ; and shall decieve many.

Notice the italics in the above verses - these words were not originally in the Hebrew/Greek Scriptures, but were added later by translators in an attempt to clarify the meaning. Meaning they can be removed to read the actual Scriptures:

Mark 13:22

For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if possible, even the elect.

Mark 13:5-6

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any decieve you: For many shall come in my name saying, I am; and shall decieve many.

So here we see that Jesus warned us about false prophets arising to decieve the "elect". Who is the elect? Strong's Exhaustive Concordance gives the original word as elektos, meaning the "select". Now the Roman Catholic Church is the oldest major branch of Christianity to survive today, with its beginnings shortly after the resurrestion itself. The person generally considered to be the leader of Christianity, the Pope, is the head of the roman Catholic Church. So it appears that the Catholics might well be among the "elect" that Jesus mentioned.

Now before anyone screams "Catholic bashing!", remember the verses above. Jesus did not condemn or admonish the Catholic Church for this - indeed, He seems to indicate that they are the ones who should be least likely to be fooled. This page is NOT meant to admonish the Catholic Church, simply to point out some things that are going on at present. It is up to the Church leaders to determine if action is necessary, not to the author of this site.

So if the Roman Catholic Church is to be targeted for deception, what would be the way to decieve it? Remember that the deception of the false prophet is accompanied by "signs and wonders". The prophecies of Fatima, as well as the other appearances of the Virgin Mary, are obviously accompanied by signs and wonders. Perhaps it is now time to look at exactly who Mary is:

Luke 1:34-35

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall concieve, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (God among us).

So here we see that at the time of Jesus' conception, Mary was a virgin, as prophesied by Isaiah. But did she stay a virgin?

Mark 6:2-3

And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach imn the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

Luke 8:19-21

Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

It would seem that she did not. Jesus had at least four brothers - James, Joses, Juda, Simon - and two sisters. The only way that Mary could have stayed a virgin was for all of Jesus' sibling to have been as divine as He was, a concept that is absolute heresey! No Mary, while blessed among all women, did not remain a virgin. Furthermore, Jesus denied any claim to Mary's sainthood through being his mother, by saying that those who followed the Word of God were his mother and brothers!

So how can the "virgin" Mary be appearing in apparitions today? Could she be the Biblical Mary come to warn us, as she claims? The Bible indicates no, for the reasons above. Is she being worshipped, and why? The actions reported by observers during these apparitions are those of kneeling, praying, etc. That constitutes worship. No angel or messenger in the Biblical record has ever allowed a man to worship them. It is clearly stated that we are to worship only God and Jesus.

So, in conclusion, we have seen another Biblical prophesy come to pass in our time: the appearance of the false prophet that Jesus warned about. One more sign that the end is drawing near...
