Claude Frollo
Voice: Tony Jay
Motive: Making Quasimodo's life a living
nightmare, and getting the Gypsies off of Paris
streets.
Review: Well I've made my decision, Frollo is, in my opinion, the best male Disney villain! But before you assault me over my choice, here me out. I have also decided that this competition wasn't completely fair, so I split them into two categories, best ‘dramatic' male villain and best ‘comedic' male villain. Frollo is the winner for the best ‘dramatic' male villain. His competitor was none other than Scar, it was truly a tough choice, but I think Frollo is most worthy of the title. One strong reason is his uniqueness, he's really unlike any other Disney villain. He's certainly one of the most complex. His character deals with some pretty adult themes like lust, desire, and arrogance. All these emotions are displayed magnificently in Frollo's song "Hellfire," a beautifully written solo, and an equally beautiful sequence. Another element to this great villain; his cruelty and immense coldness! Here's an example, Quasimodo has just been voted the King of Fools, and now the citizens of Paris are humiliating him: Phoebus: "Requesting permission to stop this cruelty!" Frollo: "Not yet, a lesson needs to be learned here." Sends chills down my spine when ever I hear that. Regardless of all these great aspects, one of the most important things that makes Frollo so fantastic, is his voice, done exquisitely by veteran stage-actor Tony Jay.
