2. CATHERINE2 CAVANAUGH (BRYAN1) was born 1842 in Kelkenny Co. Ireland, and died September 29, 1871 in Putnam Co. Ohio - St. John's Glandorf Cem.. She married JAMES WELCH Abt. 1858 in Plain City, Madison Co., Ohio.
Notes for JAMES WELCH:
James proably came to the United States in 1856 and then settled in Madison County, Ohio now Plain City. Not known if other family members came to the U.S. at that time but it is believed that a John Welch who named his uncle James as beneficiary in his will which is stated as follows: (John Welch Will - Page 477) I John Welch a private in Company G of the 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry in the Service of the United States, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament. Item I give and devise all of my estate to my Uncle James Welch of the County of Madison and State of Ohio to be to him and to his heirs forever, and I do hereby empower him the said James Welch to collect and receive for his own use all bounties and Back pay, as well as all other dues and debts that may be due me at the time of my death. In testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of November in the year 1863. Signed with his mark and signed and acknowledge by two other witnesses.
A deed for property to James Welch from George Phifer was signed April 27, 1864 and recorded on May 25, 1864. This property consisted of a premise situated in the County of Madison and State of Ohio being lots No 3 and No. 4 in Phifers Addition to the town of London. Next we find a deed which was recorded August 24, 1872. Deed of Lusia O. Sepians to James Welch which is for property purchased in County of Putnam and State of Ohio containing 40 acres of land.
I am assuming that James and Catherine Welch proably moved to Putnam County, Ohio after 1865. Catherine's parents Bryan & Mary (Collins) Cavanaugh sold their property in Pleasant Valley now Plain City, Ohio in June 1865. They also purchased property in Putnam County in 1872.
Catherine Welch died September 29, 1871 leaving six children at ages of 3 through 12 and James died less then four years later. Also assume that the children was then raised by their grandparents Bryan and Mary Cavanaugh as according to the Noon Family history which has a copy of the 1880 census of Liberty Twp., Putnam they are listed living with them.
