for eternity

I heard a saying once and it described me to a certain degree....."Cross Stitch Forever---Housework Whenever". I do really like this saying because it tells me that I can sit and enjoy myself and at this stage of my life that is what I know is the important thing to do....enjoy life in all its forms. Cross Stitch is simply one of those forms for me.

I have been cross stitching for at least 20 years, it has been long enough that I really don't recall exactly when or why I started. I do know that I enjoyed it right from my very first project. I started on aida and have worked my way up to laguana and linens and I enjoy working with these cloths much better than aida. The finished look is also much more polished and sophisticated.

My favourite patterns at the moment are Lanarte, but I have never stuck to one designer as I usually buy patterns that attract me for their look. I have also tried to do a pattern with varigated floss and I have to tell you that I did not enjoy it at all...I had to try to decide where and in what direction I was going to go for the next stitch rather than just follow the pattern along as it came. This almost put me off cross stitching forever. When I realized that I was ready to throw out all my cross stitch paraphenalia I decided to put this varigated project on a deep, dark cupboard shelf. This is the first time in my life I have done this and it felt marvelous, like shedding an old skin.I have returned to my cross stitch and am doing a "Precious Moments" pattern as a baby gift and also L & L "The Wedding" for my daughter's first wedding anniversay. Fortunately I have 11 months to do the "wedding".

One of the ways that I enjoy some of my time is by going to a group every other week in the afternoon with other ladies that stitch. This group is known as our "Stitch and Bitch" group but to be honest with you we do no bitching, unless you call husband bashing "bitching", a little stitching and a whole lot of laughing. We help each other out with our stitching problems such as what frame would look best and 'WHO KNOWS HOW TO DO A FRENCH KNOT?" One of life's biggest challenges to some of us. *LOL*

This photo has a flaw in the center of it but the stitching isn't available for me any more to redo it so please try to ignore the bright spot that really isn't there. I am an amateur photographer. *L*

The Weddingphoto

The WeddingThis is an unfinished stitching of my daughter on her wedding day. Here is also a picture of the couple for comparison.

Both of these projects were made from a photograph. I used "Pattern Maker" for these charts.
