Amanda
My Special Friend
One day while we were out shopping there was an unhappy looking elderly lady in front of us being served and Amanda heard her talking. She reached her hand up to the woman and said "Hi, I'm Amanda. Are you a grandmother?" (Later, I thought about it and realized that she could guess a persons age from the sound of their voice, or so I am assuming. I have never asked her. I guess I should *S*) Anyway, this woman reached for Amanda's hand and started to talk to her about her granchildren. Amanda wanted to know their names and ages and this woman got such a glow on her face talking about the kids. I believe that when the woman finally left the store she felt much better and never forgot the interest that a 4 year old stranger showed in her on this day. I know I haven't. Amanda brings a smile to a lot of people's faces.
CrystalAmanda has a friend we shall call Crystal. This 5 year old girl has never spoken a word in her life. You see, she has Cerebral Palsy and several other handicaps. No one that works with Crystal has had any success getting her to speak. But it was known that the ability was there. Amanda and Crystal communicate on computers. Their computers are tailored for their own special needs. It is too complicated for me to explain so please just take my word for it.One day Crystal was over visiting with Amanda and they were having their lunch. Pizza, of course, it was kids day after all. *S* Crystal gets her nourishment from a tube but she loves to taste all things so a piece of pizza is wrapped with gauze and she gets to suck the juices and flavors from it.This particular day Amanda asked Crystal if she liked the pizza. Crystal wasn't answering Amanda and Amanda wanted to communicate with her. So she said: "Crystal, I can't see whether you like the pizza or not so when I ask you a question you have to answer me YES or NO" Seconds later Amanda asked her question again, "Crystal, do you like the pizza?" Crystal said "YES" Amanda seems to know what other peoples needs are and has a special way of reaching them. Now, does Amanda sound like the special child that I believe her to be? *smiles*
