After breaking Jimmie's water around noon, Dr. Haskins ordered the Pit drip shut off & had Jimmie put on oxygen, because the baby appeared to be in some distress. Dr. Haskins inserted an internal fetal monitor inside Jimmie, at which time the baby decided to let the doctor know that she was not extremely happy about the new lack of space in her cozy little room by grabbing the good doctor's finger! After prying the doctor off the ceiling, the startled OB again attempted to insert the monitor, only to have the tenant grab her finger AGAIN! Dr. Haskins, to her credit, only jumped a few feet on the second grab, and managed to finish placing the monitor.
The staff monitored Jimmie & the baby for a couple of hours until they were satisfied that the baby would be able to handle having the Pit restarted. Within an hour, Jimmie was rattling the windows of nearby buildings, and informing the world that she was experiencing some discomfort. (I'm going to PAY for this, I'm SURE!)
At approximately 3:20pm, a labor nurse checked the on baby and found her hand was wrapped around the fetal monitor cord! Pretty good dexterity, for not having been outside yet! Shortly thereafter, Jimmie began to feel the urgent need to push. Three HUGE pushes later, at 3:52pm, Sarah made her grand entrance, ARM FIRST! Due to the fact that the doctor could not get the baby's arm back to where it should have been, the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck, but the excellent and efficient staff had her perked up in no time, and announcing her OWN arrival to the world!
Jimmie handled the entire experience with phenomenal strength and courage, especially when you consider the fact that there was no time to give her anything for the pain, even if she had requested it! And as for those three HUGE pushes, the building is scheduled to be returned to its original foundation (3 feet to the east) some time in June.
Jimmie and Sarah finally came home Thursday afternoon, where Ric's mother Anné was caring for the two elder Noell children, Ashley and Michael.
The family is beginning to settle into its new routine of controlled chaos and sleepless nights. But Ric and Jimmie make a great team, and are looking forward to handling all of the new hurdles together.
As a man who is extremely proud of his entire family, I would like to close with one final thought:
