Thomas Kidd came to Lancaster County, Virginia on the south side of the Rappahanock River in 1648. He came as an indentured servant, his transportation and that of 22 others being sponsored by Richard Lee, Gentleman.
Thomas Kidd was born 8 Jan 1626, Soham, Cambridgeshire, England. His parents were William Kidd, who was born 6 July 1598, Soham, Cambridgeshire, England and Elizabeth Nethercote, who was born 8 Oct 1598, also of Soham.
According to records, Thomas had two brothers; William born 20 Oct 1622, who married Margaret Deare, the sister of Peter Deare and Jeremie born 1 Feb 1628 and died in 1635.
The parents of Thomas Kidd were living during a period of time when an Abbey was to be built in Soham, England. The monks wanting to build this Abbey needed a certain stone which was only found in Scotland. They requested the Kidd families from Scotland to Quarry this unique stone.
The Kidd families (clan) did provide the necessary stone, and by using wooden barges floated the stone to Sonham, Cambridgeshire, England, where they helped to build the Abbey.
Written records do not indicate when the parents of Thomas Kidd arrived in Soham, whether it was before the construction of the Abbey or during the time of actual bringing stone from Scotland. The Abbey still stands in Soham and is being used today, the cemetery at the Abbey had Kidd graves.
Thomas Kidd settled on 200 acres on Burnham's Creek in that part of Lancaster County which eventually became a part of Middlesex County, VA. There were a number of land transactions involving Thomas Kidd between 1658 and 1674 by which Thomas Kidd acquired a 400 acre tract and a 200 acre tract in Middlesex County.
Sometime around 1669, Thomas married Jane Willis. Thomas Kidd died in 1680, leaving a will dated 24 May 1680.
