naturally be assumed to be logical places for the pirate to be found, there is no explanation for the warrant being sent to Middlesex County, Virginia by Lord Bellmont, except that Middlesex County, Virginia might be a place that William Kidd had frequented in the past and the possibility that Thomas Kidd may have been his father by an earlier marriage.  None of the authorities on the pirate William Kidd ever established his parentage or his place of birth.  William Kidd was married to Sarah Oorts and was living with her om what is now Wall Street in New York City when he was arrested for piracy and murder in 1699.  The pirate had written his sponsor, Lord Bellmont, in Boston about meeting with him shortly before his arrest.  Whether William Kidd, the pirate, was related to or ever lived in Middlesex County, Virginia must remain conjecture.  In any event, the William Kidd who came to Virginia in 1662 was never heard from again.

Thomas Kidd came to Virginia.  This Thomas Kidd's transportation was paid for by Andrew Davis, John Webb, and John Langworthy for a grant on the Southeast side of Machumps Creek on the south side of York river in New Kent County.  Included in those transported was a Thomas White,  The relationship, if any, between this Thomas Kidd in New Kent County and the Thomas Kidd in Middlesex is unknown.  This area of New Kent County is in the same area as that grant which brought William Kidd to Virginia in 1662.

Finally, on April 20, 1687,
James Kidd came to New Kent County in the Pomunky Neck.  William Mallory provided for the transportation of James Kidd to Virginia.  The relationship, if any, between this James Kidd and the Middlesex Kidds or even to William Kidd and the second Thomas Kidd of New Kent County is unknown.  All of the Kidds, excepting the Thomas Kidd of Middlesex County, seem to have disappeared from Virginia without any further trace.
