none. This occurred in a very interesting fashion. The original Thomas left a will when he died in 1680; that will suggested that son Thomas take the 200 acre plantation, and that son William, who was only 5 at the time, take the 400 acre plantation. Richard Willis, brother of the widow Jane Kidd, was appointed the guardian of William. In 1687, William Kidd was granted a patent on the 400 acres his father had been granted a patent on in 1663. Apparently, the patent granted William on October 21, 1687, was prompted by his brother Thomas' declaration on September 6, 1686 that he was the son and heir to his late father, Thomas Kidd, who left 194 acres to him by patent dated April 7, 1664.
It would appear that there were very strong feelings by Thomas Kidd that he only received 194 acres from his father, while his younger brother received 400 acres. Despite the hard feelings, William and his family remained on the 400 acres until he died in April, 1727.
Thomas Kidd married Alice Trigg in 1690 and they had a rather large family. Thomas, Jr, , born around 1692; John, born around 1694; Daniel, born around 1697; Mary, born around 1700; Winnifred, born on November 21, 1702; Frances, born on April 22, 1705; William, born on April 22, 1706; Henry, born on November 23, 1707; and Anne and Jane, both born on May 17, 1719. Thomas Kidd died in May, 1727, leaving will dated May 6, 1727.
William Kidd married Margaret _____, perhaps, Elizabeth Webb, and they had an even larger family than that of Thomas and Alice Kidd. William and Margaret had twelve children, all but two of whom survived. The children of William and Margaret were: Margaret, born on May 12, 1702; Robert, born on July 10, 1703; Aggatha, born on April 1, 1705; Moses, born on March 30, 1707; John, born on February 27, 1708; Dirill, born on March 16, 1711; Aaron, born on December 8, 1713; James, born on March 27, 1716; Joseph, born on March 1, 1717;Benjamin, born around 1718; Samuel, born on May 10, 1720; and Catherine, born on November 5, 1721. Joseph lived for a little over four years before dying August 23, 1721. Samuel lived for only a little over seven months; he died on December 26, 1720. Margaret Kidd, wife of William, died on March 24, 1727. Wiliam died a month later on April 29, 1727. William left no will, apparently because he had no land to leave his children.
