William Thorne abt 1610 - 1660

b. abt 1610; m.
Susannah Hallet; d. abt 1660. Denied right of church to baptize infants;
charged with heesy. became a Quaker moved to Long Islnd in 1642. Susannah
left him and sued for alimony with support of son Joseph. With 17 others,
William was one of the patentees of Flushing NY on October 19 1645. In
1646 he was in Gravesend. IN 1657 he was one of the proprietors of Jamaica
NY. Children:

John
Thorne Sr. 1638-1709 |
b. ca 17401638;
m. Mary Pearsall, daughter of Nicholas and Sarah of Hellsgate Neck and
Flushing LI; d 1709. Declared a "freeman of Connecticut 'if he will have
it'" on May 12, 1664. In 1667 John offered to serve his majest, Charles
II, on all occasions. Seven children. Oldest was John Jr.

Catherine -----; d. 1737. First to drop the "e." Lived in Flushing in
1698. In 1717, bought 181 acres near Crosswicks, NJ. Was a constable in
1710. Farmer, carpenter and often called "Carpenter John." Children:
they had 12. Fifth child was Joseph.

b. 1701; m. Sarah
Foulke (1723 in Crosswicks NJ); d. 1776. Sarah was the daughter
of Thomas Foulkes Jr. and Elizabeth Curtis who had come from England in
1677 and settled at Crosswicks. Children:

1730; m. Diademia Ivins (April 1753); d. 1807. Diademia
(1734-1813) was daughter of Isaac Ivins and Lydia Brown. Lydia was the
daughter of Preserve Brown (d 1760) Preserve was the son of Abraham Brown
of Mansfield NJ (d 1714). Abraham was the son of Nicholas (d 1694) and
Frances Brown, who lived on the island of Aquidneck, RI. They had seven
children; their fifth was Thomas Thorn Sr.:

10 July 1766; m. 1-Rebecca Steward (b. 25 Sept 1765);
Thomas had been disowned by the Society of Friends for participating in
war. He was born in Crosswicks, NJ, but became the founder of the Thorn
family in Taylor County, (W)Va. Rebecca was the daughter of William and
Rebecca (TAYLOR) of New Hanover Township, NJ. William was the son of John
and Elizabeth Steward, and John was a descendant of Walter Steward, the
third hereditary steward of Scotland and the first to assume the surname.
His father was Alan Fitzlaad, who came into England with Wm the Conquerer
in 1066 and was given land in Shropshire, England. Rebecca Taylor was the
daughter of SAamuel and Anne Taylor of Chesterfield NJ. Thomas and Rebecca
were in Taylor County probably by 1810 and definitely by 1812, when he
gave consent ofr his daughter Sarah's marriage. In 1820, a Thomas Thorn
bought 48.5 acres on Three Fork Creek and Swamp Run. This may have been
the son. Thomas did remarry after Rebecca died. Children

January 1792 in New Jersey; m. William
Thomas; d. 25 April 1880 in Cassville, WV.; William was
born July 6, 1790, in Delaware and died on 10 Aug 1865 in Taylor County
where he as a farmer. Children:

Anthony
Thomas 1817-1901 |
b.
1817 m. Lucinda
Conrad; d. 1901 in either Wirt or Roane County WV. He was a
millwright, owned a mill in Roane County and had extensive land dealings
in Wirt county too. The post office at Zacksville in Wirt County was first
established on June 11, 1849, and Anthony was postmaster from 2 Sept 1882
to 5 October 1882, and again from Nov. 21, 1889, to Nov. 4, 1892. Lucinda
was the daughter of Peter and Phebe Hartley Conrad. Both were living with
their daughter Susan Justice in Wirt County in the 1900 census.
