Domestic violence
Being abused?
Encouragement to get out!
I started creating these web pages in memorial for my great-niece Carrie Lynn Gaines who was brutally beaten to death.
But learned, that more importantly, is toward's those women who are being abused! Because....· Approximately 70% of the men who abuse their female partners also abuse their children (Wilson, 1997)
· Each year, more than 1.5 million women seek medical
treatment for injuries related
to abuse (American Medical Association, 1992).
· In 1996, 30% of all female murder victims were killed by their
husbands or boyfriends
while 3% of males were killed by their wives or girlfriends (Federal
Bureau of Investigation,
1997).
· In the U.S. every 9 seconds a woman is physically abused by
her husband (The Commonwealth
Fund, 1993).
· Women who leave their abusive partners are
at a 75% greater risk of being killed than
those who stay (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence,
1993).
