Asahel Curtis Nature Trail

This nature trail was such a pleasant cool hike, a relief to the hot afternoon -- the canopy of very tall trees and lush growth gave the trail a nice cool shade. The trailhead is located about an hour east of Seattle on I-90 toward Snoqualmie Pass, WA. The trail begins into lush forest of Douglas fir and along the raging Humpback Creek off the South Fork Snoqualmie River.

We crossed two bridges and continued on the short 1-mile nature trail loop. I had to carry Ariana (3 years old) quickly across the bridges as she had a fright of falling into the water, a fear she aquired from our recent hike to Twin Falls. We noted how the many patches of trees, unassisted, sustained its growth for centuries, and still survives despite the nearby Interstate Highway (which was evident at a distance). There were huge nursing logs springing new growth, trees rooting around huge boulders, wild flowers and ferns everywhere. Towards the end of the trail I now knew and understood why this place was of such interest to photographer Asahel Curtis, thus, the trail name.

Once we completed our loop, the girls wanted more and begged to go a little off trail along the creek. And being the mother that I am, I did not hesitate for one second and reminded them of the most important safety rule, Stay on The Trails.
