James Altom(My GGGgrandfather) was born circa 1810 the second oldest son of Spencer and Christina(SHIPMAN)Altom. He married Rebecca HENSLEY(1819-1905) and they had the following children:

James died sometime between 1840 and 1842 and Rebecca remarried William BATEY on the 9th of April, 1843 in Hardeman County, Tennessee. Of that marriage she had one child, Elizabeth, in 1844. Rebecca is buried at Lewis/Altom Cemetary in Henderson County, Tennessee. James is buried in the Old Altom Cemetary within the Natchez Trace State Park. The cemetary is no longer there, but there is believed to have been several Altoms besides James buried there. Further infomation on the children of James and Rebecca below:

Phebe Adiline was born in 1837 and married Andrew Jackson WOOLEY in Henderson County, Tennessee. Andrew was born in 1834, a son of Hiram and Martha WOOLEY amd brother to Catherine listed above. The children of Phebe and Andrew were:

David Crockett(12/23/1839-1902) was born in Henderson County, TN. and married Sarah(SHIPMAN) on 8/16/1865. Sarah(5/6/1843-1/19/1914) was born in Carroll County Tennessee, the daughter of John R. Shipman and Sarah(Moore). They had the following children, all born in Tennessee:

Silvester married Isabelle DERRYBERRY(1869-1926) and later, Jane GARNER.
Lizzie married James Newton(Newt) DUKE.
Osee married William Lafayat HEARINGTON 12/17/1891. She died in Calhoun Co., MS.
M. Viola married George ROBERTS 2/20/1898.
Eudorah 'Dora' Hill married James Brantley SCOTT
David Green married Lessie HALL
James R. married Sofie WADLEY
David Crockett Altom married Sarah in Metropolis, Illinois, following his Civil War service and they moved back to Henderson County, Tennessee and lived in Moores Hill community. David died July 5, 1902 (tombstone states 7/3) at Lexington, TN. Sarah outlived David by about 12 years. As her health began to fail she moved in with her youngest son James R. and lived until her death January 19, 1914. She died of inflamation of the brain-causing paralysis as stated on her death records. They were both buried in the old family graveyard 12 miles east of Lexington, Tennessee (Lewis/Altom Cemetary)
