Lona: 1969 - 1996 Lona went on after Clints death. She moved back to Lawrenceburg for awhile. Her grandson Ronnie and his family still lived there and she had friends there too. After a while, she decided to move to Alabama. Her brothers and sisters were there and through them, she even met a nice gentleman, Henry Mitchell (called "Mitch") who was a good companion to her. She and Mitch married in 1974 but after about a year, she was widowed again. By then, Kathy was living in Lakeland, Florida so Lonas next move was to Lakeland to be near Kathy. Through all Lonas later years, she was known to hop on a Greyhound Bus (her preferred mode of travel!) and come to Michigan to visit her children and grandchildren (and great-grandchildren by this time!) When the bus ride became too long and tiring for her, she would just hop on a plane! In a few hours, she could be in Michigan visiting again! As late as 1991, at 91 years old, she was still making these treks across the country. Her children would take her on vacations with them she saw Disney World more than several times! In all, she lived another 27 years after Clint died. She had mostly happy times, but some more sad ones, too. She lost two more sons on March 6, 1981, Bud died in Florida and on October 28, 1995, Dutch died in Florida. Lona lived to be almost 96 years old. When she died on March 29, 1996, she was just 12 days short of her 96th birthday. Like Clint, she was taken back to Barnesville, Tennessee. She is buried next to Clint, with her childrens graves near her. Clint and Lona were good and faithful Christians who put their lives in the hands of their Lord Jesus Christ. They had many good times in their life, to be sure, but lots of hard and sad times to. I like to think of them now, together again in heaven, this time with only happiness and joy around them! |
