$100 REWARD FOR POSITIVE PROOF OF THIS CONNECTION

This is my preponderance of evidence for Peter COOPER of Autauga Co, AL being the son of Adam B. COOPER Sr. of Fairfield Co, SC.

A distant relative made a note of Peter's father being Adam COOPER. A census shows Peter being born in SC before 1800. Adam COOPER of Fairfield Co, SC married "probably" Jane BELL and had three sons 0-16 at home in 1790 (also a wife and two daughters). In 1800, it shows two sons 0-10 and 2 sons 10-16 (also wife, two daughters 0-10, and one daughter 10-16). In 1810, one of those sons had left home and there were no other COOPERs in Fairfield Co and no Peter COOPER who was the right age in any other 1810 SC county census; that son either died or moved to another state. I believe that son was Peter who moved to Autauga Co, AL. In 1820, Adam's son Andrew was on his own, and there were two boys left at home. Adam's son Adam B. Jr. died in 1823, and we have the estate papers for him. Then in 1830, Adam's son George appears in the census. Adam died in the 1830's, and Andrew and George sold their land. Andrew moved to Chambers Co, AL ca 1836, and George was in Winston Co, MS in 1850. I believe that Adam Sr. would have named a son Peter, since his father was named Peter and his brother was named Peter. Adam Sr's daughters were Margaret (married Wm. F. HILL), Nancy (who married a WISE), and possibly a Mary.

Peter COOPER of Autauga Co, AL was supposedly in Autauga Co. before 1819. He shows up in census records starting in 1830. His children by his first wife (Mary ??) were: William (ca 1813), Adam B. (ca 1819 SC), John D. (ca 1815), George (1812 NC), Andrew J. (ca 1818), ***Savilla*** (RASBERRY, ca 1821), Martha (b ca 1823 AL;married Singleton POSEY), Jane (BRAZIER, ca 1826), Elizabeth (b ca 1829 AL;married Albert TATUM), Catherine (SANFORD, ca 1831), and Louisa (b ca 1827 AL;married ?? THOMPSON).

Neighbors of Adam COOPER Sr. in SC were Francis POSEY, Henry STRINGFELLOW, surname FUNDERBURG/FUNDERBURK, surname MOBLEY, and John GRAY. All of these men moved to Autauga Co very early and were direct neighbors of Peter COOPER; one of Francis POSEY's sons married one of Peter's daughters.

SC Genealogist Brent Holcomb conducted extensive SC research and acquired every paper he could find at the SC archives on Adam COOPER, and I have Peter's probate records from Autauga Co, AL; Peter died intestate and there was a considerable amount of paperwork involving his dozen-some-odd kids. Very shortly before Adam Sr died, he started selling off his land.....to son George, son Andrew, and son-in-law Wm F. HILL. I'm wondering if Peter might have received something that would be recorded in Autauga Co,AL or maybe he gave a deposition of some sort. I would love to have EVERY available record on Peter that can be gotten from AL!!

I have all of Peter's censuses and all of Adam Sr's censuses, so I don't need those. No estate papers have been found for Adam Sr.

I was "hoping" that Peter COPEN on the tax lists for Cherokee Nations Land in AL in 1810, 1819, and 1820 was actually Peter COOPER. Someone, somewhere transcribed a name as Peter COPEN from those lists, and there was no Peter COPEN or anyone else by that surname in the AL censuses until 1860 or 1870, and that also might have been a misread. Of course, proving Peter's whereabouts wouldn't prove his relationship to Adam. A census shows some of Peter's first children having been born in SC, so it's possible that Peter and his wife were living with her parents; her maiden name is unknown.

This is some of the info I have on Adam Sr, in the form of a query that I send out from time to time:
I am seeking info on my ancestor Adam B. COOPER, Sr b ca 1760's in Philadelphia, PA and also on his parents Peter COOPER and Margaret/Margaretta FREY/FRY who married in Philadelphia ca 1754 or before.

Adam had a brother Peter, a sister Elizabeth who married John STONE, and a sister Eve who married Jacob STONE, probably in Fairfield Co, SC. After Peter COOPER died, Margaret remarried to Andrew FEASTER/PFISTER also in Philadelphia in 1767, and they moved to Fairfield Co, SC where Adam COOPER and Andrew FEASTER, Sr. were members of the Dunkard Faith...German Baptists known as the Brethren...and both Adam and Andrew had long white beards.

Margaret FRY COOPER FEASTER was born in 1739 in Philadelphia, died in Fairfield Co, SC 10 Oct 1824, and is buried in the FEASTER-COLEMAN Cemetery, Feasterville, SC. Margaret and Andrew had (at least): John, Jacob, Margaret, Martha, Susannah, Elice, and Andrew. Their son John named a daughter ***Savilla***; this name also carried through Peter COOPER's line. Some associated spouse-of-children surnames from the FEASTER kids are: Martha m Wm. COLVIN in 1783, John m Drucilla MOBERLEY in 1789, and Andrew m Ms. WOOLEY.

This may not mean much, but Peter's land in Autauga has a HUGE pecan orchard. When we drove through Fairfield Co, in the vicinity of Adam's land, there was evidence of a HUGE pecan orchard. Another of Peter's descendants said that his grandfather also had grown pecan trees, and he had often wondered where/how he had learned of that.
