It's A Dog's Life! |
Wow,
that supper was so good...
I fell asleep, I guess, and the next
thing I knew it was Sunday. And now it's THURSDAY! How time flies
when you're having fun... and that's what I've been having, for
sure! So much has gone on since I first came that I'll just give
you a couple highlights about the things I've done and learned!
Games
Doggies Play
I never learned many doggie games
until I came here; now I know lots! Some of my favorites are:
King of the Mountain - My new home has a sunken living room, with two steps down into it. We like to take turns defending the prime spot at the top of the steps, and seeing who is on top by the time we're all tuckered out! (Blaze usually wins this one!)
Sumo Wrestling/Boxing Freestyle Challenge - I like to play this with Smokey. He wrestles, but I, having learned most of my self-defense techniques from a human, prefer to use my paws and "box" - I get up on my hind legs and do my Mohammed Ali impersonation, dancin' from side-to side - fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee! Smokey's more like "Hulk Hogan." Boy is this one fun! This usually leads to a rousing round of
Ring Around the Rosie - This one involves running round and round from kitchen/dining area (my FAVORITE place) through the steps down into the living room, through the living room and entryway back through the other arch into the kitchen, with occasional episodes of Hot Potato thrown in -- this is the part where you jump on and off the sofa as fast as you can! It really gets fun when we all start changing directions on each other - then we call it Wag-Tag.
What's
This?
There have also been some new sounds
to figure out. One that really got me good was the first time I
heard the trash compactor running -
I ran to the window and barked furiously, trying to do my part to
protect my new home & family. Only thing is, none of the
other dogs were doing anything about it AT ALL! Imagine how
embarrassed I was when Shadow explained to me about the trash
compactor?! All us dogs agree we don't understand why our humans
spend money on electricity to run the darn thing, when we'd be
happy to compact trash for them all day, every day! Go figure!
Another sound that was new to me came from some white box that was on the kitchen counter. I saw Foster Mom put water and white powders into it, and then she walked away. Nothing happened, so I went to sleep. Then all of a sudden there was this thumpy-whirring sound coming out of the box. BARK!! BARK!!! Again the other dogs paid it no attention, but I was trying to protect Foster Mom from that thing. And she must have appreciated it, because a couple hours later she opened up that box on the counter, took out its guts, and gave me a bite of warm fresh bread!
Daddy's
Not-So-Little Helper
In exchange for all the hospitality,
I've been trying to do my share to help out, especially on
Sunday, when I was still worried about making a good impression.
Foster Dad was busy cutting landscape timbers and he looked like
it was taking its toll on his energy and patience. So I went to
work helping. I carried pieces of those timbers all over the
yard, and even tried to bring him the power saw when he was at
the other end of the yard. I'm not sure he appreciated it though,
because he spent an awful lot of time laughing at me! Oh well, we
do our best to please!
