On this page you will find links to many pages that will be helpful to you when you are building your GeoCities webpage with WebTV.
I am also including my own help page HERE with more detailed instructions on retrieving images and sound files and getting them into your file manager.
First, you will need to find the items you wish to place on your webpage. You will need backgrounds, images, and possibly music or other sounds. The following sites will help you acquire these.
Draac's Gifs123 site offers page after page of images, backgrounds, and midis--all WebTV-friendly! Draac also has pages of HTML tutorials.
Big Daddy's Gifs To Go site also offers images, backgrounds, midis, and HTML tutorials. This site also offers various styles of lettering, and some WebTV logos. Also WebTV-friendly.
WebTV Rulz offers backgrounds, dividers, balls and a few sound files. Also some really good tips for making a page in GeoCities.
Dug On The Web offers a really good selection of midi files. Also some backgrounds.
Sound Express offers---SOUNDS! :-) A site with a large selection of music files. Also includes songs from TV and movies.
STILL can't find what you're looking for?? The following two sites should help you out.
Paul is THE person to go to with questions regarding WebTV! Paul knows it all! He's a longtime WebTV user who's managed to find the answers. His site offers help on doing ANYTHING with your WebTV, from using the unit itself, to building a homepage with it. Paul also has huge lists of sites that offer graphics, music, HTML help, etc. Save this site to your favorites, if you haven't already! You WILL use it in the future!
Want to find a site about WebTV? This search site brings up nothing but pages for and about WebTV!
Now that you've found all the *stuff* you'd like on your page, you need to get them into your manager so that they are on your page! The following sites are Tools that you will use to do this. If you need any help at all in using these tools, please E-mail me or fill out my CL form.
Put this one on an F-key! (Uses automatic fill-in for URLs, so you don't have to type them in!) This site offers several tools you will use in creating your site, the main one being the Transloader itself. Any files you want on your site should be uploaded to your file manager using the Transloader. There is now a 30KB filesize limit to any files you want transloaded with the free version. There is also a new Premium version that has no filesize limit, but requires you to pay for membership. Star Boulevard also has tools for finding out the URL of a file you want, for uploading video files that WebTV Plus can do, plus more. To find out more about some of the most well-used tools, see my WebTV Tools Tutorial page.
In case you have a file bigger than 30KB and don't want to pay for Star Boulevard's premium service, or if Star Boulevard is busy, you can use this free service from Domania. It's similar to Star Boulevard. If you have any questions on how to use it, just E-mail me or fill out my Form.
If you understand a little about HTML codes, you can use Dr. Watson to find out the coding used for various pages. If you see a layout you like, send the page to Dr. Watson, and it will spit out the coding used to create the page. You can also use it to find out the filenames of images and music used on a website. Dr. Watson is also used to find out if there is anything wrong with YOUR webpage. It will analyze the coding, and tell you if there is anything wrong.
Quick Find is another site to put on an F-key, as it also uses the automatic fill-in for URL's. Lots of helpful tools on this site--sites to find HTML source, website garage, spellcheck, etc. My favorite tool in this site is Gif Sizer. Once you isolate a graphic, bring it up, hit the F-key for Quick Find, and the graphic will be in the Gif Sizer section--just hit the button to find out the height and width codes!
The following sites have information specifically on building a webpage in GeoCities with WebTV.
This is GeoCities' own help pages for WebTV'ers, located in their Help Guides. Some specifics on signing up, and creating with WebTV through GeoCities. Also a few links for further help.
This link is for the GeoCities WebTV Committee, made up of Community Leaders throughout GeoCities who use WebTV. I was a member of this committee when I was a CL. The site offers some graphics, and links to various help sites located within Geo itself. Here you will find out a lot of the links that the Leaders themselves use. There is also a message board for WebTV'ers to help each other, which is also visited by the committee members.
This next section is for WebTV help in general. Not necessarily help in building a website, but in owning a WebTV.
This site offers many articles about owning a WebTV. Also includes from time to time, articles on building webpages. You can subscribe to their newsletter, and they will let you know when a new issue is out. Lots of good info, and they encourage feedback--they take polls all the time! They also have their own forums. A very good site for all WebTV'ers to stay "in-the-know"!
