2. RICHARD2 SANDERS (J
OHN1) was born October 28, 1755 in North Carolina, and died 1836 in Orange County, Indiana. He married (1) ELIZABETH BREEZE. He married (2) HANNAH MORGAN HENBY.Notes for R
ICHARD SANDERS: Not sure if Richard's date of birth is 1740 or 1755.A note found in Grandma Emma Goodwin's keepsakes, possibly from correspondence with Ora A. Oldfield of Centralia, Illinois in the early 1950's (I have a copy of an envelope) states that Richard was born in England in 1740. He came from there through Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Her note further states that Richard served seven years in the Revolutionary War and became a personal friend of one of his commanders, General George Washington. He married Elizabeth Breeze while living in North Carolina. Richard and Elizabeth moved to Indiana in the early 1800's. It is said that they were members of the Christian Church and attended the first log church in Valeen, Indiana. Richard died while living on his son's farm at the ripe old age of 96.
LDS and Family Tree Maker each list Richard as born October 28, 1755 in North Carolina to John and Miriam (Symons) Sanders. Jean Laltrello also lists Richard's first wife as Hannah Morgan Henby, widow with children. Second wife was Elizabeth Breeze born January 1, 1785 and died March 26, 1856. Elizabeth is buried in the Little Grove Christian Church Cemetary, Walnut Hill, Illinois.
Here's the confusion. It would seem improbable that Richard could have been born in 1740, moved to Indiana at about sixty years of age and fathered four children after that age with the last one coming when he was eighty. I am searching for confirmation.
