Good Friends … Good friends are hard to come by. My idea of "A GOOD FRIEND" is that he/she must be able to find time for me, understand me and tolerate my shortcomings. In my life, I suppose I can count the no. of my good friends with my right hand … there aren't many : Yeu Jou Yeu Jou. We were schoolmates in secondary and JC and also attended the same church. Yeu Jou was a naval diver ( a navy commando) in his national service days and was also trained as a sniper … meaning he could shoot an object of the size of a fifty cents coin at a distance of 600 m away! We share a mutual respect and understanding for each other. We encourage each other a lot in life ( esp. in schools days). Kelvin and Seow Yen Kelvin and Seow Yen. (Hee! Hee!) The reason why I put them together is that they are now husband and wife! I can say we are the best of friends in church, worked in the same committees and eat together often. We shared deep things with one another … things that are not spoken in front of others. We three also shared a common area … all of us are teachers! Then Yee … my college friend. Though we still quarrel with each other over unsettled issues … he is one good friend whom I can rely on and trust. Then Yee and Myself … having a wild time! Family Ties … Family is important to me in life. While others shy away from their family members (esp. parents) … I want to be recognised with them, to say I'm proud to be part of their lives. Think of it this way, When you were small, who brought you up? When you were sick, who took care of you? If you do not love your family members, who else will? If you do not provide for them, who else will? You are here … because of them … then, When would be the time that you start loving them? Good Memories … Good memories are something you cherish and when remembered … makes one wish that he can relive those moments again. JC Classmates -A Class Outing My JC days … I enjoyed my school days in JC most. I remember my class played soccer together, rain or shine, exams or no exams! The class spirit was strong though there were times of quarrels and unhappiness too. 2D'96 Happy memories are made up of people who enjoyed each other company. 2D'96 was the first class in my teaching experience and would always be people whom I remember and cherish in life. Why not Being an Engineer?
Many people have asked me why I didn't want to take up engineering as a career … "isn't it a waste not to use my degree?" Well … I believe life is more than staying in comfort zones of where you know that you'll be "safe and secure". It is about chasing that ideal dream you have in your heart. I don't want to live my life in regrets. I knew that engineering career is not what I wanted … I wanted to work with young people, to impart good values and experience that I have gathered in life to them. So … I chose teaching. Not really a difficult decision then.
Why engineering course in the first place? I would just say that it was a bad decision made when I was younger. But then, the years spent in the U were times well spent. The training that I received through the engineering course actually sharpened my analytical mind and helped me to think more practically. And I got to know God better through those years. |
God in My Life … When I think of someone big and important in my life … I will think of God my Saviour. I'm not trying to "push" God to you now, you can actually choose not to read this portion of this script. The reason why I put this part at the end of this script is to let you "switch off" easily if you feel uncomfortable. I just want to acknowledge Him here because He plays a very significant part in my life. Thank You God … for that LOVE that sustains me … and for that GRACE that pours so freely on me!
