Diego Storn's Travel Diary
From Diego Storn’s Diary #6
The voyage from Mormallo to Dalereuth was uneventful. Jasper and I enjoyed the cool breezes and calm water. Dalereuth Tower is a spectacular sight coming in from the sea. As we grounded the boat on the beach below the castle, I was reminded of Piedro's tales of sea chieri in the area. A narrow path leads from the beach to the Tower, and Jasper and I walked up it toward the Tower's massive doors. I knocked and soon a young woman who, based on description, I knew to be Idriel MacAran came to the door. I introduced myself and told her about Domna Marilla and Dom Piedro giving me permission to use the library. Idriel and I are actually distant cousins through the MacAran line, and Jasper took an instant like to her.
I presented her with a small gift from my travels and asked if I could leave some other gifts for Tower residents. Anxious to begin the work assigned to me by the Priestesses back on Mormallo, I asked to be led into the library.
What a magnificent room! Tome after musty tome line the walls. The aroma of old paper is wonderful, especially mixed with the scent of leather. I noticed that Piedro and Marilla had used the money I gave the Tower wisely. I began scanning the book spines and spotted one which I needed to see. It is a retelling of the Hastur and Cassilda tale, exactly what I was here to study. Why the Priestesses were interested in that old folk tale, I do not know.
Hours later, my eyes sore from reading, I emerged from the library, my clothing dusted with fragments of old leather dust. Damisella Idriel showed me to a small room and I collapsed exhausted on a cot with Jasper snuggled up beside me. Tomorrow I will read more.
