J. F. Ruffin, dealer in groceries and hardware at Cedar Hill, Tenn. He carries a small but select stock of goods, and began business in 1882. He was born on the old homestead in Robertson County, Tenn., January 15, 1861, and is a son of J. E. and S. A. (Batts) Ruffin.

The family settled in the county at a very early date, and J. E. Ruffin received a very thorough education in several of the best schools of the State. He was a teacher and was engaged in the dry goods business a [p.1186] short time. His wife died in 1878.

Our subject remained at home until twenty-two years of age, and on November 25, 1883, was united in marriage to Ada Featherston. They have one child, a daughter, Laura F.

Mr. Ruffin attended the common schools until entering the high school at Adams Station in 1875. He finished the course in 1878, and then began working in his grandfather's tobacco factory, continuing two years. He then became clerk in W. R. Featherston's store, and on November 8, 1882, began business for himself. He is an energetic young man, and has the confidence of all who know him. He is a Democrat and a member of the Baptist Church. His wife belongs to the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
