Henry John Gray Ruffin's parents moved with their children to Green County from Edgecombe County. Henry J.G. moved to Franklin County in 1825. He purchased a tract of land from Green HILL and Alexander McKnight and built his home overlooking the Tar River about two miles west of Louisburg, NC.
Prior to moving to Franklin County, he was a Colonel in the State Militia. In 1813 he was a member of the House of Representatives and later became a State Senator from Franklin County.
Although most of his children were born in Greene County, they moved with the family and later married into families in Franklin and Wake Counties.
H.J.G Ruffin graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1825.
