Addons for World of Warcraft
This is a list of addons I use, or have used and would like to use again once they work out a few bugs. This list exists mostly for my own convenience, so that I have all my addons in one place whenever a patch breaks them. Of course, it can serve the same purpose for you as well.
Other sites exist which provide a more exhaustive selection of addons. If you're looking for an addon which doesn't appear here, I suggest you check curse–gaming.
UI
These are big addons, designed to make changes in the way the UI looks.
- X-Perl UnitFrames
- X-Perl UnitFrames is the new UI of choice for LotF.
Class
This group includes addons which simplify or streamline functions for a particular class.
- AutoLootPocket
- AutoLootPocket toggles autoloot when you stealth. The effect is that you don't need to click the loot when you pickpocket.
- StunWatch
- StunWatch gives you a timer for Sap... and presumably other things, but that's what I use it for.
Skill & Profession
This group includes addons which simplify or streamline functions for a particular skill or profession.
- Enchantrix
- Now included as part of Auctioneer (below), Enchantrix is a spiffy addon for enchanters.
- Fishing Buddy
- If you fish, Fishing Buddy is a great way to keep track of how many fish you've caught in which areas. It also has a few little functions to streamline the process— gear switching and tweaking the volume of your sounds so that you can hear the splashes that mean you've caught something.
- Gatherer
- Gatherer is a helpful little addon designed to mark your maps with locations where you've gathered chests, herbs, minerals, and various other looted items including Un'goro dirt and power crystals.
Miscellaneous
Other useful addons go here.
- Auctioneer
- I love Auctioneer, for two functions. First, you can scan all the auctions on the AH and build a database of prices so that —over time— you can see the average price for each item on your server. Also, there's a checkbox to remember the price you set on an item, so that the next time you put that item up for auction it defaults to the same price.
- Chat Scroll
- Chat Scroll allows you to use the mouse wheel to scroll through chat windows.
- CCWatch
- CCWatch displays timers for various crowd control effects.
- Clearfont
- Clearfont is awesome. Basically, it just changes the default font to something more readable, and gives you more options for font size. I'm really hoping Blizzard eventually adds the ability to select custom fonts to the default UI.
- Elkano's Buffbar
- Elkano's Buffbar turns buff icons into bars showing the remaining duration.
- GroupCalendar
- GroupCalendar is a polished tool for scheduling, and making that schedule available to a select group of people. Everyone in the group must have the addon installed and updated. It appears that the person who created this addon intends to quit WoW, so LotF has switched to GuildEventManager.
- GuildEventManager
- GuildEventManager is another tool for tracking planned events. It's not as good as GroupCalendar was, but it still seems to be supported.
- ItemSync
- ItemSync has replaced LootLink in my addon list.
- KLH Threat Meter
- The importance of KLH, or at least of its primary function, cannot be overstated. It puts a small bar graph on your screen showing your threat relative to the threat of others (who have the addon installed and activated) in your party. This helps you know when to "curb your dps" and when you can ramp it up. Hopefully some day this will make it into the default UI.
- LootLink
- A lot of folks would be completely lost without LootLink, which amuses me, but I depend on it too. It quietly gathers a database of every item you've seen in–game, and then allows you to search that database based on various criteria. Extremely helpful for referencing stats without alt–tabbing and looking them up on a website.
- MetaHud
- MetaHud creates a heads–up display on your screen which shows your health and energy/mana/rage, and that of your target.
- Adapt enhances this by replacing the default abrupt movement of the bars with swift but smooth animation.
- MetaMap
- MetaMap is a very helpful map addon, with a whole host of features which I don't use or even know about. I use it primarily because it allows me to put markers and notes on my map, representing quest–giver and target locations or whatever else I want to remember.
- MobInfo
- MobInfo is a great addon that tracks mob drops.
- MonkeyQuest
- MonkeyQuest.
- OneBag
- OneBag is a very slick package which groups all your backpacks into one bag, all your bank bags into another bag.
- Scrolling Combat Text
- Scrolling Combat Text has become a lot bigger since I started using it. The default UI of WoW now has some of the functionality of this addon, but there are still reasons to get the addon.
- SpamSentry
- SpamSentry is one of several addons designed to squelch the gold–seller spam which has become a problem recently.
- Trinity Bars
- Trinity Bars is the most versatile set of buttons I've seen. It replaces and greatly augments your speed bars.
