Via Rail to Vancouver, BC

Via Rail
ViaRail: Train Station, Jasper Townsite

Via Rail has some great trips to offer the traveler. We got the train in Jasper and overnighted to Vancouver, BC. If you haven't traveled by train, I recommend the experience. One does actually see stuff not available to travelers on the interstates and even local highways.

We caught the train around 4 in the afternoon, and had a dome-car just for our group. This is a great way to see the scenery. And the scenery is definitely worth seeing around there. Along the way, the train passes by Mt. Robson, which is very distinctive. There is also a lovely waterfall that the train actually slows down for so photos can be snapped and you can really appreciate its beauty.

Of course we had dinner on the train as well as breakfast the next morning. Sleeping on the train is not so easy. There is considerable noise and the stops can easily wake you up. Still, it was a lot of fun. We got into Vancouver around 8 AM and immediately boarded a motorcoach to catch the ferry across to Victoria. A genuinely lovely and gracious city. Also, the provincial capitol.

Pyramid Falls

This is Pyramid Falls. The train slows so all the passengers can get a good shot! It's on the way from Jasper to Vancouver at Mile 92 near Valemount, BC.
