PARKER, JOHN M., PrivateBorn in Lincoln County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Lincoln County at age 23, March 25, 1862. Wounded in the chest at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on or about July 3, 1863. Returned to duty in September- October, 1863. Wounded in the left leg at or near Jones' Farm, Virginia, on or about October 1, 1864. Left leg amputated. Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia. Furloughed for sixty days on February 24, 1865. Survived the war. |
This company, known as the "Spring Hill Guards," was raised in Lincoln County and enlisted in Lincoln County on March 25, 1862. It was mustered into state service at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, on April 28, 1862, and assigned to the 52nd Regiment N.C. Troops as Company H. After joining the regiment the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the remainder of the war is reported as a part of the regimental history. |
