As I mentioned in my previous message, my female Pekin disappeared last night. As we searched for her I was distraught at the wondering of where she could be. We have 12 acres with a pond but Daisy and Donald have always stayed near the garage since they were babies. They have their own swimming pool and we feed them daily. They have never wandered off. I am nervous that potentially some other animal could have gotten Daisy hough there is not any evidence of a disturbance and we could not find even a feather as we searched the property. I have never clipped their wings as I was previously under the impression that Penkins did not fly due to their weight and genetic makeup. Could I be wrong and Daisy flew away? Has anyone had this experience? Will she come back since she's fed here and Donald is here? I have penned Donald in so that if there is a problem with an animal he will be protected. Yes, we started with two little yellow fluffs before Easter this Spring. They would come in the house and sit on the boys tummies and watch television. Soon they became a problem for the garden and water pond so they were put outside the fence where they are happy with their wadding pool. Our problem is we can't tell if they are boys or girls! Guess we will just have to wait and see. One seems more aggressive than the other. We did have an accident right after getting the ducks. The boys were visiting a neighbor and one of the ducks at ant poison and we could not save him. The boys were heartbroken and the other duck cried and cried so loud that the next morning we were at the feed store and bought another one. It was like visiting friends. I love ducks. I got my first duck for easter when I was about nine. We now have a house with a big yard and since I was staying home this year, I finally got ducks again. They have been living in my office with me until they are full grown and the weather warms up. And yes they love water. Their favorite part of the day is when I fill up the bath tub for them. They dive and splash and swim underwater for about an hour. We have two much loved ducks called Maxim and Scuddy. They are real characters, very curious and naughty. Our only problem is that we aren't sure what gender they are and we are not even sure what sort of duck Scuddy is. He is b ack and white with a red blotchy face and a black beak. They are about a year old and we have never had any eggs from either of them but they have been getting up to some very suspicious behaviour which makes us think that one of them MUST be a girl.
