Song Lyrics

YOU CAN'T WALK ON WATER
                     ©1997,John A.Poe,Jr.
1
It’s nice to have possessions;  they make us feel secure,
But I’m not sure if we own things, or are we owned by them;
Big bank accounts and lots of toys won’t help us get to heaven,
So Jesus said to give them all away, and follow Him.
(chorus)
You can’t walk on water until you’ve burned your bridges;
Your parachute won’t open till you let go of the plane;
You can’t move a mountain while climbing up its ridges;
And you can’t serve the Master, while you’re tryin’ to play it safe.
2
It’s easy to walk boldly, when it’s daylight on the pathway;
And we sit high and dry on shore, and don’t fear the hurricane;
We stand and sing His praises, inside our church on Sunday,
And write the Lord a check, if there’s some extra in the bank.
(chorus)
You can’t walk on water until you’ve burned your bridges,
Your parachute won’t open till you let go of the plane;
You can’t move a mountain while climbing up its ridges;
And you can’t serve the Master, while you’re tryin’ to play it safe.
3
It’s confidence in things unseen, and hope of things to come;
Depending on a mighty hand  that holds my life and way;
Just walk as far as you can see, then step into the darkness
Believing God will guide your footsteps each and every day.
(chorus)
You can’t walk on water... ‘til you’ve burned all your bridges,
Your parachute won’t open till you jump out of the plane;
You can’t move a mountain... while climbing up its ridges;
And you can’t serve the Master, while you’re tryin’ to play it safe.
