Song Lyrics

 MY FATHER MADE THEM ALL
  ©1996,John A.Poe,Jr.

-1-
I often think of boyhood days, when all my little pals
Would come to see the wooden toys that I had at my house.
My Daddy’s hands had carved each one, as perfect as can be,
And when he finished, with a smile, he handed it to me.
No store-bought toy was ever half as good as those he made,
You couldn’t beat the quality, no matter what you paid.
The kids just loved to play with them, and eyes would open wide,
When I would smile and say to them, my face lit up with pride:

(chorus)
My Father made them all;  and he said they’re all mine,
And I know, in the whole world, they’re the best that you will find;
But something else my Daddy said to me, I know is true:
The best thing that I made,  my son, was you!

-2-
Today I saw a rainbow, as I strolled among the trees;
I thought about tornados, and I felt the soothing breeze;
I saw majestic mountains, and the tiny, perfect flowers,
The fury of a thunderstorm, the peace of gentle showers;
I saw a precious hummingbird, and watched an eagle soar,
And counted mighty ocean waves that crashed upon the shore.
Then I was humbled by the sea of stars I saw above,
And thought of all God’s hands had made, and given us with love.

(chorus)
My Father made them all, and entrusted them to me;
And yet His greatest gift of all is life eternally.
The crowning glory of creation, here for all to see,
The best thing that He made, was you and me!
