Song Lyrics

LOOK HIM IN THE EYE
  ©1996,John A. Poe,Jr.

1
Some day I’m going home to live forever with my Lord;
I’ll kneel at Jesus’ feet and humbly wait for my reward.
 I want to stand before Him then, and know I’ve done my best;
To say to Him, "I’ve run the race, and now I want to rest."

(chorus)
I’d hate to hang my head in shame, when His was crowned with thorns;
And I can’t turn my back on Him, for His was whipped and torn.
I hope to walk up to my Lord, and reach for His embrace—
I want to look Him in the eye when we stand face to face.

2
There’s just no way to calculate the price He paid for me,
When He accepted God’s command to go to Calvary;
Upon His sacred head the sins of all mankind were tossed,
And all He asks us in return is go and reach the lost.

(chorus)
I’d hate to hang my head in shame, when His was crowned with thorns;
And I can’t turn my back on Him, for His was whipped and torn.
I hope to walk up to my Lord, and reach for His embrace—
I want to look Him in the eye when we stand face to face.
