Song Lyrics
I KNOW SHE DIDN'T MEAN IT

-1-
My baby used to be the sweetest thing this side of Heaven,
She used to love to cuddle up, and hold me good and tight,
She used to like to cook, and clean the house, and do the laundry,
And tried so hard to please me each and every single night.
But lately I don't understand what's going on between us,
She sure ain't acting like that sweet young thing she used to be;
When I get home real late at night, a little drunk and sloppy,
She just rolls over crying, and won't even talk to me.
•
-2-
I still remember how she had the cutest little dimples,
But lately all I'm seeing is that ol' death-mask of doom;
She needs to understand how, after working eight whole hours,
A man has to unwind down at the pool hall and saloon.
I just can't figure out why she has lost her sense of humor;
She even told me once that I was rotten to the core!
I think she should appreciate the effort that I'm making--
I hardly ever beat her or the children anymore!
•
(chorus)
I'm sure that she was kidding when she said, "I'm gonna leave you;"
She probably was joking when she said, "I hope you die;"
I bet she was just fooling when she took the car and children;
I know she didn't mean it when she said, "Goodbye."
•
-3-
She doesn't understand about the pressures that I'm facing,
How things down at the factory have gotten mighty rough;
And all she has to worry 'bout is cleaning one small trailer,
And watching our eight kids; now you tell me, is that so tough?
She thinks I oughta bring home every single little paycheck,
Like food and rent and payments are the reason that I work!
She's got to realize that I'm the one that runs this family,
And treat me with respect, instead of calling me a jerk.

-4-
I always get depressed, when I can see her in the morning,
Because it's then I see how she has let her figure go,
But every time I mention it, she starts in on my beer-gut;
Why won't she just accept me, and not criticize me so?
She gripes about my breath, wants me to shave and take a shower;
She sure has lost that lovin' feeling, that much I can say.
And I can't stand her whining about every little problem;
Seems every time I cuss her, she won't smile at me all day.
