Song Lyrics

TONIGHT I’M GOING HOME
©1996,John A.Poe,Jr.

1
This morning early, I was born, and now it’s afternoon;
I don’t know where the hours went, but night time’s coming soon.
There’s so much left for me to do before the sun goes down,
But late tonight I’ll sleep a while, then rise and get my crown.

(chorus)
My life on Earth is but a day, and how the time has flown!
But I am not afraid to leave; tonight, I’m going home.

2
It’s been the strangest day so far;  I’ve known both joy and tears,
With ups and downs, and pain and pleasure, certainty and fears;
But, stranger still, I won’t be frightened  when I start my flight,
And I don’t fear the darkness --- in my home there is no night.

(chorus)
My life on Earth is but a day, and how the time has flown!
But I am not afraid to leave; tonight, I’m going home.

3
I can’t explain this mystery that leads to paradise:
If I am only born one time, then I will perish twice.
But when I gave my life to Jesus, I was born again,
So I’ll die once, and then awaken there in Gloryland.

(chorus)
My life on Earth is but a day, and how that time has flown!
But I am not afraid to leave; tonight, I’m going home.

No, I am not afraid to go; tonight, I’ll be at home.
