24th Annual 7's Tournament

This Saturday June 17th, the Rockaway Rugby club will be hosting their 24th annual rugby 7's tournament. This yearly ritual, which takes place within the confines of Gateway National Parks Ft. Tilden, is open for the entire community to enjoy. Games begin at 9am and will proceed until dusk. Teams and players from all over world will be competing, including teams from Scotland, Japan, and England. Domestic sides from all over the east coast will also be taking part.

There will be open, social, and women's teams in three separate brackets competing for cup, plate, and bowl honors. Rockaway's team consisting of local heroes Brian, Pat, and Mikey Geraghty, Johnny O'Connor and Robby Ostrander will be competing for the overall title. Other rockaway teams will boast local talent like Tyrone Sperling, Tom Leonard, George"Rocket" Johnson, and Mike Connicelli. There will also be a youth rugby clinic teaching the game of rugby to elementary school children.

The entire neighborhood is invited to come down and enjoy this exciting extravaganza with proceeds going to the 69th Precinct community council and other local charities. There will be food and refreshments served during the course of the day and an evening party planned at the clubhouse at 113-06 Rockaway Beach Blvd. Don't miss it.
