"The First Two People on Earth: The Story of Adam and Eve"

(Weekly Bible Story # 1)

"God made everything on earth, the sun, for us to see in the day, the moon for the nighttime, and he made the stars to shine in God's night. He also made all the plants and all of the animals, the birds and the fish. Then the last most important thing that God made were the first two people on earth, Adam and Eve"

After God created the the heavens, the earth, sun, moon, stars, the mountains and the seas, plants, animals, birds, and fish. God made the first man, and his name was Adam, he breathed in to him the breath of life, and man became a living person. Then God planted a garden in Eden, to the east. In the garden God put Adam in the garden. God put all sorts of trees there. At the center of the garden God placed the Tree of Life. And he also put the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God told Adam that he may eat of any tree in the garden, but their was just one, that God did not want Adam to eat. It was the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Then God caused Adam to fall asleep. And God took one of Adam's ribs, and God made the first woman out of one of Adams ribs. The Adam and Eve were both naked. But neither of them were embarrassed or ashamed. And the woman's name was Eve. Adam and Eve were very happy in the Garden of Eden. All the fruit on the trees was wonderful, and it tasted sweet. Then one day, Eve walked away from Adam and went and looked up at the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The serpent (the devil in the form of a snake) came to the woman. The serpent said, "None of the fruit in the garden? God says you mustn't eat any of it" Of course we may eat it," Eve told the serpent. "it's only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we most not eat. God says that we most not eat or even touch it. If we do, we will die." Eve said. "That's a lie" the serpent hissed. "You'll not die! God know very well that as soon as you eat it you will be come like Gods, and your eyes will be opened. You will be able to know good from bad!" Eve was convinced. How lovely and fresh-looking the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was. It would make her so wise! So she ate some of the fruit and gave some to Adam. As soon as Adam and Eve ate the fruit they saw that they were naked, and thy were embarrassed. So they both strung fig leaves together to cover themselves around the hips. That evening they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden. Adam and Eve hid among the trees. Then God called to Adam, "Why are you hiding?" And Adam said, "I heard you coming. I didn't want you to see me naked. Who told you, you were naked?" God asked, "Have you eaten the fruit from the tree I warned you about?" "Yes," Adam said. "But it was Eve who brought me some. And then I ate it." Then God asked Eve, "How could you do such a thing?" "The serpent tricked me," she replied. So God said to the serpent, "This is your punishment. You are singled out from among the tame and wild animals of the whole earth to be cursed. You shall crawl in the dust as long as you live. You will always crawl on your belly. From now on you and the woman will be enemies, as will your offspring and hers. You will strike his heel, but he will crush your head." Then God said to Eve, "You shall have children in intense pain and suffering. Yet even so, you shall want your husband to love you. And he shall be your master." And God said to Adam, "You listened to your wife. You ate the fruit when I told you not to. Therefore I have placed a curse upon the soil. All your life you will work hard to extract a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, and you shall eat its grasses. All your life you will sweat to master it, until your dying day. Then you will return to the ground from which you came. For you were made from the ground, and to the ground you will return." The man (Adam) named his wife Eve (meaning "The life-giving one"). For he said, "She shall become the mother of all mankind." And God gave clothes to Adam and his wife Eve, and they were made from skins of animals. Then the Lord said, "Now the man has become as we are. He know good from bad, What if he eats the fruit of the Tree of Life and lives forever?" So God sent Adam and Eve out to farm the ground from which they had been taken. Thus God expelled them both. And God placed mighty angels at the east of the Garden of Eden. They stood with a flaming sword to guard the entrance to the Tree of Life.
